Yocto consulting services
Yocto consulting for teams shipping real products
Hands-on Yocto Project and embedded Linux consulting for engineering teams developing and maintaining production systems. From a focused fix for the build failure blocking your release, to a platform your team can maintain for ten years.
When Yocto projects get difficult
Embedded Linux projects rarely fail at the application layer. They fail in the platform: build issues, integration problems, unclear layer structures, ageing BSPs, and decisions that accumulated over product releases. Sound familiar?
Builds that only work on one machine
The image builds on the senior engineer's laptop and nowhere else. New hires lose a week before they can compile anything.
Layer sprawl nobody can explain
Inherited BSPs, mystery patches, and meta-layers stacked over years of product releases. Upgrades feel like defusing a bomb.
Yocto upgrades that break everything
Moving to a new Yocto release surfaces hidden dependencies, changed recipes, and board issues all at once — so the upgrade keeps slipping.
No safe way to update devices in the field
The product shipped without an OTA story. Now a security patch means a site visit, or a recall you can't afford.
Slow, flaky CI — or none at all
Builds take hours, break randomly, and nobody trusts them. Release candidates get built by hand.
Images that are bloated or fragile
WIC layouts and image composition grew organically: slow boots, wasted flash, and root filesystems that corrupt on power cuts.
What we do
Practical help across the Yocto stack
Layer architecture & recipes
Clean, maintainable layer structure: what belongs in your BSP layer, your distro layer, and your application layer — and what to delete.
BSP integration & board bring-up
U-Boot, kernel, and device tree work to get your board booting reliably, with vendor BSPs integrated instead of forked and forgotten.
Reproducible builds & CI
Bit-for-bit reproducible images, shared-state caches, and pipelines your team can rerun in ten years — not just today.
Yocto upgrades & migrations
Move between Yocto releases methodically: recipe updates, layer compatibility, and board regression testing before anything ships.
OTA-ready image design
Signed A/B updates with automatic rollback, delta payloads, and an SBOM with CVE tracking behind every build.
Troubleshooting & mentoring
Focused investigation of the build failure, boot hang, or integration problem blocking your release — and engineers who learn from the fix.
How it works
Start small. Know the cost before you commit.
Platform vendors sell subscriptions. Big services firms sell billable months. We sell a finished platform — US-based, senior engineers, fixed scope.
1. Free scoping call
Twenty minutes. Tell us where the platform hurts and what you're shipping. You get a straight answer on fit — including if we're not the right help.
2. Yocto Build Health Check
A fixed-scope, paid diagnostic: layer structure, reproducibility, image composition, and update strategy. Risk map, prioritized fixes, bounded implementation plan.
3. Bounded implementation
Fixed scope, fixed price, one delivery date. Everything lands in your Git repo, with your signing keys. No lock-in, no per-device fees.

FAQ
Yocto consulting, answered
How much does Yocto consulting cost?
We price fixed scopes, not open-ended hours. Most teams start with the Yocto Build Health Check — a fixed-price diagnostic with a risk map and a bounded implementation plan. Implementation work is quoted up front: one price, one date, one list of deliverables.
Can you work with our existing layers and BSP?
Yes — most engagements start from a platform that already exists. We integrate vendor BSPs and inherited layers, clean up what's fragile, and leave you with a structure your team can maintain. You keep your repo and your signing keys.
Which boards and SoCs do you support?
Whatever board fits your application — Arm and x86, vendor development kits or custom carrier boards. If you haven't committed to hardware, we can help evaluate. We're independent: no silicon-vendor agenda.
Do you work remotely?
Yes. We're a US-based team working remotely with engineering teams across North America. The engineer who scopes your project is the engineer who builds it.
Should we use Yocto or Buildroot?
For multi-year industrial products that need long-term maintenance, security patching, and fleet updates, Yocto is usually the right call. For small, fixed-function devices, Buildroot can be simpler. We'll give you a straight recommendation on the scoping call — including if Yocto isn't what you need.
What do we own at the end?
Everything: the layers, the recipes, the CI pipelines, the documentation, and the signing keys. Open-source foundations, your Git repo. No subscription, no per-device fees, no lock-in.
Tell us where your Yocto project is stuck
Twenty minutes, no pitch deck. You get a straight answer on what it would take to fix it — and what it would cost.
